Obituary of Franklin J. Spina
Franklin was truly a one-of-a-kind man. Not only did he meet and connect with people constantly, but he made it a point to reach out to them on a regular basis to stay in touch. According to his family, he would sit and call every single phone number in his address book on New Year’s to wish a blessed New Year to everyone he knew. He had a tradition of eating herring and drinking champagne while he made all these phone calls – and was usually more than a few deep by the time he got to the end of the alphabet!
Although he was hugely successful in his professional life, he always remained down to earth and closely connected with his family. He was very close with his two sons, Michael and Anthony, and his daughter, Mary Rose. Franklin always credited his wife, Betty, for being the glue that kept their life and family together.
When he wasn’t working, traveling, organizing telethons, or spending time with his family, Franklin somehow still made time to enjoy a nice game of golf. He frequented Wanakah Country Club and was well-known and well-loved by everyone he knew there. He wasn’t necessarily good at golfing, but took great pride in coming in last place!
