Obituary of Donald Ward
Donald was an ambitious man with an incredibly strong work ethic. He was happy being a provider for his family and did his best to teach his children the importance of hard work, honesty, and a connection with God. Donald originally had signed up for Forestry College, hoping for outdoor work as he loved spending time in nature. He happened upon Landscape Architecture classes from his sophomore year to his senior year in school, and he fell in love with the profession. He owned and ran his own successful landscape architecture company for many years.
One of Donald’s favorite pastimes was flying his 1943 Piper Cub plane that he fully restored. He had many adventures in the sky, including piloting aircraft to the Bahamas. In 1986, he made a solo trip across the United States to San Diego, California and back again. This trip was precarious, with a few major weather events taking place along the way, but he made it home safe and sound, to the great joy of his beloved wife and children. He also used to hunt and fish, but as he grew older, he was more content simply walking in the woods peacefully, talking softly to the deer and one day he was followed home by a young Deer he named "Juni"!
He had a favorite poem by Kalidasa that he had on the wall in his office. Please take a copy of this poem to inspire you daily and as a reminder of Donald’s positive view of life.
