Obituary of Frederick Shultes
Fred was a family man who usually wore a serious demeanor but had a fondness and appreciation for the little things in his life. Canoeing, Pinochle, Cross country skiing, and bowling with his team were just a few of his favorite pastimes. Watching the Sabres play and playing baseball with his grandkids were among his favorite things. He once slid during a game of baseball with the grandkids and ended up with grass stains in his hair – which he took with a gracious dose of humor. Anyone who knew him knew he also considered food to be a serious hobby. He always had room for ice cream, butterscotch pudding, and especially his daughters amazing shortbread.
Fred and his wife, Charlotte, enjoyed 59 years of marriage together. They had a sincere commitment to each other that was clear to everyone else, and they weathered both the good times and the difficult times together as a team. They met while roller-skating on Main Street in Buffalo, and both Charlotte and the roller skates were lifelong fixtures. His signature move was “Shoot the Duck!” Please take a roller skate cookie in memory of Fred and all the wonderful times he spent with his friends and family doing the things he enjoyed most.
