Obituary of Charles McCarthy, Jr.
Charles was an active man who deeply and truly cared for his community. He worked for Erie County for many years, and also went out of his way to help out in the town of Lackawanna. He would drop everything and go to help someone who needed him, because he was the kind of man who would go above and beyond to care for someone. At his retirement party, Charles received the Key to the City for all the work that he had done.
Music was an important part of Charles’ life, as well as an important part of his faith. He sang in both a capella groups and church groups. 35 years ago on a retreat with St. Mary of the Lake, Charles sat down at a piano and started singing, which was how caught the attention of the love of his life, Sandy. Please take the sheet music to Amazing Grace to take home with you, to remember that the power of music can bring us closer to God, lead us to those who are most important, and remind us of Charles’ love.
