Obituary of Robert Waver
Robert worked for Waver Coal & Ice until he finished high school, the family business started by his grandfather Orsamus Waver. Waver Coal & Ice was located at the corner of Hamburg & Miami Street in Buffalo and contained an ice house & barns for the teams of horses & wagons and later delivery trucks. He delivered ice for Buffalo residences with ice boxes (the predecessor to refrigerators) using ice tongs to carry the ice over his shoulder as he climbed the stairs to the homes. Bob was proud to be the successful founder of ALP Steel Corp., a structural steel and light iron fabrication facility in Buffalo. He was proud of the contribution to the community by his company to so many of the buildings and parks all over WNY. Bob was a wonderful husband to the late Lucy Waver (nee Harsch) for 42 years, and a loving family man who treated his family to wonderful vacations to Crystal Beach, Rushford Lake, camping and to Florida. (3 children, 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, nieces & nephews) He was beloved by his family, friends and colleagues. Bob had a smile that warmed all of our hearts and a quiet generosity that touched us all.
Bob received a 60 year award as a 32nd degree mason with membership in the Scottish Rite, Ismailia Temple, Western Star Lodge, Valley of Buffalo and Buffalo Lodge. He was a member of the Subcontractors Association, Antique Automobile & Truck Club. He was an avid collector of Buffalo made cars & trucks, such as Pierce Arrow, Atterbury & Stewart brands. He was a knowledgeable and voracious reader & debater of current events. Bob was born and raised in Buffalo, and was a lover and supporter of all things Buffalo and WNY.
