Obituary of Elinor Chilcott
Elinor was a woman who was a mother not only to her four beloved children, but to everyone that she cared for. Her house was always open to those who needed a place to stay, and her kitchen always had something cooking for her children’s friends to eat. Elinor adored cooking, making homemade bread, potato pancakes, and pies, all of which she made from scratch. Elinor also loved being a grandmother, and her eight grandchildren were the light of her life. For her granddaughters, she made sure to send them each a dress for Christmas Eve and Easter.
Elinor was lucky enough to meet the love of her life, Stephen, in 1959. A fortune teller told her that Stephen was going to come into her life, telling her that she saw one uniform coming, one going. Sure enough, when Elinor’s brother entered the service, Stephen had come home. They were married for almost 58 years, and their biggest fights seemed to be about Stephen playing classical music. Elinor’s favorite song was one that she shared with her grandchildren, “A Bushel and a Peck” from the famous 1950s musical, Guys and Dolls.
