Obituary of Melvin Kurtz
Mel was a kind-hearted, easy going, and all around loveable guy. Everyone who was lucky enough to call him friend knew that they could call him any time, day or night, and he would be there for them. He had a great sense of humor, a calm demeanor, and a very personable attitude. He loved to take his friends and family out to lunch to catch up and talk. Mel was a little bit of a workaholic, and kept himself busy right up until the end. He tried to sell his cardiologist insurance right before he last major surgery.
No matter how much he enjoyed working, he always made time for his family. His late wife, Joanne, was the love of his life, and they enjoyed many years together after eloping at 18.
Mel loved to hunt, fish, and play cards. He took trips to Canada to fish and spent a lot of time on Lake Erie catching walleye. He was known at the Seneca Niagara Casino as something of a legend in the Poker Room. He loved Texas Hold ‘Em. He won the “Bad Beat” there many times. Please take a card or a poker chip to remember Mel’s many wonderful years with family and friends. May it always remind you of his poker face when you are feeling lonely.
