Shirley was a loving family woman with a sassy streak. She was very independent, having lived on her own since 1990. Her daughter, Darlene, was her best friend. Darlene visited Shirley all the time in the nursing home and took her shopping frequently. The nurses at Elderwood were fond of Shirley as well, and her son Larry’s daughters worked around the nursing home to keep an eye on her and make sure she always had some family nearby.
Shirley loved flowers, and had her own beautiful flower garden every spring that she tended herself. In her earlier years, she loved to travel. She and her husband used to rent cottages for weekend getaways with some of their extended family around Erie and Chautaqua. Shirley would pack so much for these trips that her family would joke about the car’s springs dragging on the ground. They enjoyed boat rides together, sometimes camping in a trailer right on the water. Shirley always loved the water. A wonderful view was one of her favorite things in life.
