Edmund was a passionate man with a large heart. He was lucky enough to meet his wife, Candy, through work, and together they shared a love of language, linguistics, philosophy and literature. The pair were fortunate in having 41 years of marital happiness. In their home, there was always 2 Newfoundland dogs, each with an Old English names, such as Wulfgar and Heatholaf. When Edmund was stationed in Germany during WWII, he learned to ski, and later in the 80s he got the chance to ski in the Alps in Italy. His passion for skiing refused to ignored, and he was going down the slopes of Holiday Valley until he was 88 years old.
During his years with the US Army, Edmund was sent to Stanford to study Japanese, though he could already also speak German and Arabic. After retiring from Niagara County Community College, he began teaching ESL at Canisius, where he was well loved and his language skilled reminded his students of home. The kids that he worked with had told him that “you speak like my grandparents”.
