Additional Funeral Services provided by Lakeside Funeral Home

Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. makes every effort to seek out all and any resources to meet the needs of the families we serve. To this end, we have found these providers to supplement the services of the funeral home. We are more than happy to arrange their services on your behalf.

White Dove Releases

Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. started releasing white doves on its funerals over 15 years ago. We were one of the first funeral homes in the country to offer this service. We present them in a meaningful way that touches the hearts of the attendees at the funeral. The dove is traditionally a symbol of peace, hope, and love, but its most significant symbol is of the Holy Spirit. It is the ultimate, hopeful tribute to your loved ones.

Lakeside also arranged the dove release for the world famous actress/singer Aaliyah.

The White Dove Company spends innumerable hours training, vaccinating, and caring for their white homing pigeons. According to Wikipedia, "The homing pigeon is a variety of domesticated Rock Pigeon (Columba livia domestica) that has been selectively bred to be able to find its way home over extremely long distances. The wild rock pigeon having an innate homing ability, means that it will generally return to its own nest and its own mate. This made it relatively easy to breed from the birds that repeatedly found their way home over long distances. Flights as long as 1800 kilometers have been recorded by exceptional birds in competition pigeon racing. Their average flying speed over moderate distances is around 30 miles per hour, but they can achieve bursts of speed up to 58.7 mph. White homing pigeons are used in Release Dove ceremonies at weddings, funerals and some sporting events." Because we are concerned for their welfare, we will not release the Rock Pigeons in inclement weather, which would reduce their ability to get home.

Tribute Videos and Slide Shows

Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. has been offering video tributes and slide shows since 1989. We offer our families the ability to place pictures on our website for family and friends to view in remembrance of their loves ones.

The tribute is then burned to a DVD, which is given to the family to keep, and played on the televisions that are mounted from the ceiling in each visitation room.

Memorial Tribute Candles

Memorial Tribute CandleLakeside Memorial Funeral Home created our first memorial candle 10 years ago. We have refined and upgraded them over the years, so they are a lasting tribute to a lost loved one. These candles can be burned over and over again since they use a candle insert similar to the votive candles used by the Catholic Church.

We provide a selections of several backgrounds and poems which are included with the picture, name, dates of your loved one.

Online Streaming and DVD

Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home is the first in Western New York to offer the streaming of funeral services online. These individual pages are private and not available to the general public. This program is designed for relatives and friends who are unable to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, Funeral Service, or Memorial Service.

"I wished that I had the opportunity to view my father's funeral one more time," Charles Castiglia said. "I was so emotional at that moment, that I barely remember what was said about my dad at the funeral mass."

As an added bonus, Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home provides a DVD of the service for the family to keep for the future.

Grief Books & Grief Support

Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home offers a very unique grief support service to all of our families that we care for. A toll free number is provided to each family that has a certified counselor on the other end to provide a comforting ear to someone who is struggling with the loss of their loved one. Any family member or friend can use this service at no charge.

Along with the grief support line, we mail a series of 4 grief books to each family over the course of a year. The first book comes at 1 month and discusses the period when the busyness of the funeral is over and it is time to reflect on the loss in private. The second book arrives at 3 months and covers how grief affects people individually. The third book is available at 6 months and goes over how grief affects how the whole family interacts. The final and fourth book comes at 11 months. Many times the anticipation of the anniversary of the death is much more emotional and stressful than the actual day.

We feel that our services should not end the day of the funeral, so we use this tool to help stay in touch and continue to help our families through their grief.
